The metal used to cast this Thao Mahaphrom figure consists of bronze fragments from the Dvaravati, Funan, Tambralingga Lopburi, Srivijaya, Kotrabun, Hariphunchai, Si Satchanalai, Sukhothai, Ayutthaya, Lanna, and Suvarnabhumi periods. Bronze signifies “success,” which is why ancient people favored using bronze metal to create sacred images and amulets in their beliefs, along with actual currency from the reign of King Jayavarman.
